Hello teacher, here is the second report of the book “Sherlock Holmes Stories” that was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Since you will know, the stories are about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his good friend Dr. Watson, who wrote what happened in each adventure in the book.
Summary:
I will write about the first story named "The Devil's Foot", begins when Holmes and Watson went to holidays, because a doctor in London checked Holmes and his health was weak, but it was never worrying the detective though he noticed that if his health was not good, he might not devote to solve cases.
In spite of being removed from the mysteries, he wouldn´t know that one of them would come at the door of the house where both friends were resting. Two men; Mr. Roundhay and Mr Tregennis, who were scared because Mrs Tregennis was murdered last night by a "Devil", inmediately, when Holmes listened about the supposed "Devil" he agreed the case. When they arrived, Holmes began the investigations, but there were few evidence, Mr Tregennis talked with them and said that the last night he had gone out of his house to drink, then, when he returned, he didn't see anything rare. The other day a man named Dr. Leon Sterndale appeared in Holmes's house asking for the well-being of the family of Mr. Tregennis, but the detective began to suspect him due to the fact that only the family, Watson and he knew about the murder, but that suspects made in Dr. Leon be mad.
But a new problem had appeared, Mr. Treggenis awaked "dead", his face showed an horrible expression and as the other murder, there were few evidence, but something did the maid in the room of his boss, she opened the window and this action made Holmes to think about it in days. Finally he had the clue and to verify if it was true, Watson agreed to could be the victim in the experiment, they close all the windows and the doors, then Holmes take some red stones and put it in fire, then a strange smell took Watson in a terrible condiction, he became feeling bad and then Holmes open all the windows and saved Watson from a terrible death.
The clue was that someone put the red stones in fire, this stones made a poisonous air that cause in the victim a terrible death, and the person that did this was Dr. Leon, when he was discovered, he admited that in the past he was in loved with the wife of Treggenis but she didn't want to wait him in his trip, and in revenge he killed Mrs Triggenis and later Mr. Triggenis.
But Holmes didn't have sufficient evidence to blame him, so Dr. Leon escaped.
In the second story I chose "The Creeping Man", a story that talk about a man named Professor Presbury's, who his dog had bitten his hand each 9 days, his story is rare, beacuse in the begining the Professor was a good man that always did his job with a good air, always was warning his family when he left home, but one day, he left without warning his family and when he returned, he have changed. After that day, he began to be a bad person with all his employers and with his family, specially when one of his best employers have discovered a strange box, because Presbury's became mad.
Holmes and Watson went to his house to investigate about him, but in a date surprise, the Professor became mad and he trhew out the two men. Holmes paid to the employers that wait one week until the next night when the dog tried to bite the Professor hand. The day came, and the two men went to his house to spy the Professor, when he approached the dog, he began to throw stones to it, then Holmes and Watson entered to his room and took the box. They opened the box and found a medicine, but the medicine was not for humans, because the medicine is for monkeys and if a human took the medicine, the person will act like a monkey and the reason of being a nuisance to the dog is only because he wanted to play with him.
Analysis:
I chose the two stories because the name of both were interesting for me, I was thinking that the name "The Devil´s Foot" and "The Creeping Man" were difficult cases that the murder was not a human, that could be a paranormal phenomenon or something similar. But if I analize I can say that both are similar beacuse Holmes have few clues to resolve the mistery.
Conclusion:
That was interesting for me, if I have time (on vacations) I would read the stories (but the complete version) for more fun, but I wabt to read another one that I am searching.
